My family has harvested salt on the north shore for three generations; I run the camp, six rooms and a mango tree. I am up at six for the bread, and I can take you to see the harvest before the coaches from Dakar arrive. In the evening there is nobody left but us, the birds and the dogs.

- La crête de dune entre le lac et l'océan, à sept heures du matin. On voit les deux eaux en même temps et on n'entend rien.

- Donner ce qu'on a sans faire d'histoires. Si vous arrivez à quinze heures affamé, on ne vous demandera pas si vous avez réservé le repas.

- Dormez une nuit au lieu de venir à la journée. Entre dix-sept heures et neuf heures, le lac ne ressemble à aucune photo que vous avez vue.

Getting there
From AIBD: 50 km, 50 min to 1 h 15 on the motorway then the VDN. From the Plateau: 9 km, 20 min on a clear road, 45 min between 8 and 9 am; taxi 2,000-3,000 CFA. The VDN is served continuously by Dakar Dem Dikk buses and minibuses, and this is one of the few districts where ride-hailing drivers find the address first time. Mermoz is 10 min away on foot via the Ouakam road, the western corniche 15 min by car. The inner streets are often dug up: ask your host for the exact drop-off point.
