Getting there
From AIBD: 48 km, 50 min to 1 h 15 on the motorway, exiting at Front de Terre. From the Plateau: 6 km, 15 min on a clear road, 35 min at 6 pm; taxi 1,500-2,500 CFA. Avenue Cheikh Anta Diop is a permanent bus and minibus artery; the campus, the western corniche and Mermoz are all under twenty minutes on foot. Getting home after midnight is easy: taxis wait outside the restaurants on the avenue — one of the few parts of Dakar where that is true all night.
Your host, Fatou
I am from Kabrousse, three kilometres from the Cap. The house was my uncle's; he built it in mud brick and sheet metal, and I added hot water and mosquito nets. We grow rice behind it, and I gather oysters in the bolong when the tide allows. I will collect you at the airport, it is ten minutes away.

- Le riz de Casamance au poisson braisé, avec l'huile de palme rouge. Le riz vient du champ derrière la maison, pas du sac.

- Le bolong au petit matin, quand on part chercher les huîtres en pirogue et qu'il n'y a que les oiseaux et le bruit de la pagaie.

- Chez nous on dit qu'un invité appartient à tout le village. Vous verrez : trois personnes vous salueront par votre prénom avant la fin du deuxième jour.
- What I always recommend
- Marchez sur la plage jusqu'à Boucotte au lever du soleil, et revenez par les rizières. Deux heures, et vous aurez tout compris de la Casamance.
- The language we speak at home
- Diola à la maison, wolof au marché, français avec les voyageurs. Mes enfants mélangent les trois dans la même phrase.
