Getting there
From AIBD: 48 km, 50 min to 1 h 15 on the motorway, exiting at Front de Terre. From the Plateau: 6 km, 15 min on a clear road, 35 min at 6 pm; taxi 1,500-2,500 CFA. Avenue Cheikh Anta Diop is a permanent bus and minibus artery; the campus, the western corniche and Mermoz are all under twenty minutes on foot. Getting home after midnight is easy: taxis wait outside the restaurants on the avenue — one of the few parts of Dakar where that is true all night.

A Ngor fisherman, like my father before me. I take the pirogue out at five and I am back by eleven, so if you want fish for lunch, tell me the day before. I have been renting out the family house since my daughters left to study. I do not speak English, but my nephew does, and he lives two doors down.

- Le thiof braisé au four à charbon, avec du riz et des oignons. Je l'achète à onze heures sur la plage, on le mange à quatorze.

- Le bout de la plage du village, du côté de l'île, à six heures du soir quand les pirogues rentrent et que les gamins jouent au foot sur le sable dur.

- C'est simple : personne ne repart de chez moi sans avoir mangé. Même si vous êtes arrivé à minuit, il y aura quelque chose sur le feu.
- What I always recommend
- Prenez la pirogue pour l'île de Ngor le matin, pas l'après-midi : la mer est plate et vous aurez la plage de derrière pour vous.
- My first guest
- Un couple de Bordeaux, en 2022. Ils sont revenus trois fois depuis et le mari sait maintenant réparer un filet.
